What skills are you most proud of gaining since you started caregiving?‍

“I’ve learned to be more compassionate and patient. Even though caregiving can be challenging, it’s also rewarding. I’ve learned to adapt with this disease, at each stage of the progression.”

What do you like to do for self-care?

“I like to have massages and walk on the beach.”

What is a favorite memory you have taking care of your aging loved one?‍

“Taking mum to the beach, so she could, sit on a bench, and look out at the ocean. She enjoyed the smell of the salt air, and watching the waves roll in. I loved just watching her have this special moment of joy.”

What is the best part of caregiving?‍

“Helping to make my mum smile, with things she enjoys. This brings me joy, and makes the caregiving experience rewarding. Also, knowing these moments, I have caring for my mum, are special, as she won’t be here one day.”

What is the hardest part of caregiving? ‍

“Saying goodbye when I have to leave her, and drive home. It’s really hard, to walk away.”

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Mia!
