Balance your diet.

The food you take can either positively or negatively impact your skin. As seniors, your food must contain essential vitamins and minerals to strengthen your skin. You can consider having fatty fishes filled with omega-3 fatty acids which can promote moisturization. There are also other sources of good fats such as avocados and nuts. Of course, don’t forget to eat vegetables like sweet potatoes and broccoli which are filled with vitamins. Planning and having a balanced diet can make the adult’s skin more resilient from potential skin damage. Regularly moisturize.

As older adults become more at risk to sensitive and dry skin, it is important for them to moisturize daily and avoid unwanted cracking or itchiness. It’s advisable to get a fragrance-free moisturizer and apply it a few times a day to hydrate your skin. Doing so could help get rid of fine lines and prevent skin problems. You can also consult your dermatologist if they have a recommendation for a moisturizer fit for your skin type. Aside from this, investing in a humidifier can also help especially during cold seasons. Continuous exposure to dry air can lead to redness and cracking of the skin which makes humidifiers useful in sustaining the skin hydrated as it increases the moisture in the room you’re in.

Mind sun exposure.

Apply sunscreen everyday because the skin is at risk for sun damage all year round. Though, stay out of the sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as much as possible because the rays are strongest during these times. Exposing yourself to harmful UV rays can lead to serious senior health problems which is why it’s recommended to use daily sunscreen containing SPF 30 or more. Other issues that you can acquire from prolonged exposure to the sun includes eye damage, sunburn, skin discoloration, and wrinkling aside from skin cancer. Wear protective clothing when going out as an added layer of defense together with sunscreen. 

Don’t smoke.

It is no secret that smoking is damaging in so many ways especially to the skin as it contributes to aging. The blood flow reduces, depleting the skin of necessary oxygen and nutrients when smoking. Stopping this bad habit is one of the ways on how seniors can boost wellness which could slow down the aging process.
