She is also an entrepreneur, side hustling two websites educating people about geriatric nutrition and helping other dietitians become entrepreneurial in their own way. We had the great pleasure of speaking with her and talked about her career as a geriatric dietitian and journey as an entrepreneur.

Laura Banner is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and the founder of Compassionate Education. For the past 9 years, she has been specializing in dementia care and helping caregivers and families through all stages of dementia. We spoke to Laura about her passion for dementia care and how she founded Compassionate Education. She shares her path to becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner to starting her own business, and what all caregivers who are caring for someone with dementia need to understand.

At this point Mom looks like she is bored with the show so I grab her coloring book and pen and have her work on what will be another masterpiece to save and frame later.

I’ve learnt to be more compassionate and patient. Even though caregiving can be challenging, it’s also rewarding.

The hardest part of caregiving was watching my mother, the woman I know and love, slowly slip away. I never knew when another part of her would succumb to the cruel disease.
